Slightly biased opinion as I’ve only been to 2 French lakes now but after going here every other French lake has a lot to live up to.

The food was fantastic (the ginger cake I want the recipe for),the scenery/surroundings are beautiful, the fishing and fish are out f this world, being the one of the first to fish this wonderful lake was something slightly special imo.

Ross and Pixie have a passion for this lake (and food) which is evident when you talk to them and eat there food (have i mentioned the ginger cake),they are a warm and friendly couple who go out of there way to make sure that everything is perfect for you.I can’t wait to go back again and fish this wonderful lake……..Ross mark it on the calendar,2 years time to the exact week we came, we will be back (I’m pretty certain us four that came will all be there)

If you only fish one lake in France this year or next year make sure it’s this one.

Dear Ross and Pixie

I just wanted to write to express my thanks for your hospitality and the fantastic experience I had at the lake.

I was blown away by the stunning scenery of the lake and I have never witnessed such luxurious accommodation whilst fishing and the facilities and finish of the house is on par with a star hotel topped off by Pixies wonderful cooking.

On top of the surroundings and accommodation, I managed to break my own personal fishing records by catching my 1st Sturgeon (which at 38lbs was my biggest fish)until I caught a 39lbs Mirror carp towards the end of the stay.

I have fished in France previously but I have never had the good fortune of catching 6 fish that each exceeded 30lbs in weight.

You have moved fishing to a whole new level and I am already planning to return which is a first as I had no desire to return to the lakes I visited previously.

Thanks again for you hospitality and help during my stay and I hope to see you again in the near future.

Kind regards

Rob

PS The cottage pie was amazing!!

I’ve just returned from a week’s fishing on the newly opened Etang Le Rocher and what an exceptional venue it is. First impressions last and it didn’t disappoint, from the moment you drive through the gate it’s clear that attention to detail has not been spared. The fishing accomodation itself is fully equipped to the highest standard with 2 Flat screen TV’s and sky as a bonus. The log burning fire is another real treat especially on cold wet nights on which we did have few at the start and just adds to the whole ambience of the place. The two sets of bi-folding doors brings the outside in when the sun comes out with ample space to fish from the lodge if you so wish. The upstairs bedrooms are pleasantly laid out with 3 comfortable beds in each with the shower and toilet placed in-between.

The Bailiff (Ross and his partner Pixie) are very welcoming and friendly with Ross having a very good knowledge of the lake and is more than forthcoming in giving hints and tips. Pixie is an excellent cook and accommodating even to the most fussy of eaters as we had in our party. (me)

The tackle shop is well stocked with everything that you might need on the bank, Bait was obtained from Ross at reasonable prices and was always on hand when we run low.

The lake itself is beautifully set out and the swims immaculate with the added bonus of a socket in each swim to charge up the essentials, The Bivvies’ bed chair and all hard ware brand new and to the highest standard.

The most important part is the fish and on that front it definitely didn’t disappoint, from the first night we caught hard fighting excellent condition fish and continued on through the whole week until the last morning.

Common Carp caught ranging from 30lb2oz to 51lb lake record known as Big Ted (what a fish by the way) – Mirrors from 24lb up to 46lb and the 2 Sturgeon coming out at 38lb and 29lb respectively.

On a whole it was an amazing week with future trips booked for later on in the year and next year already pencilled in.

I arrived late in the evening just as the sun was setting. What a site for tired eyes.

I’ve been to many lakes over the last fifteen years covering most of France, Always promised something that just wasn’t there. With Etang la Rocher it’s the opposite.

I was greeted by Ross and Pixie instantly you can feel their passion for the place, then given a freshly prepared wonderful supper, (thanks Pixie) in what I can only describe as a five star villa on the edge of the lake, huge TVs and sofas, the log burner is a special treat and six beds upstairs. I chose the sofa with the bi fold doors wide open. Rods ten feet away. Perfection. Hot showers and bathrooms, three I counted.

What a view.

Ross explained the set up and bait was supplied, The fish were jumping I was itching to get the rods out. Just looking at the surroundings was a pleasure then the fish came, 4am the first, a 35 common, 8am another 35 mirror, immaculate fish in fine fighting form. It didn’t really stop for the next two days unfortunately I had to leave. Two of us in 48 hours had over ten fish from the first two 35’s to a 38 sturgeon, 40 mirror (beautiful) and a selection of big thirties. The swims are unbelievable from the details in the setup, privacy, electric points, wi fi, probably the best bivvies and wide beds all set and ready to go. Superb.

After the nights fishing feeling a little cold. I was served hot bacon sandwiches where I sat. I can honestly say that it was the best fishing trip I’ve ever had. I will be back. Sooner rather than later. Well done everyone who put so much effort, hard work and detail into this tremendous fishing experience.

All the best
